"Several years ago, I came across a news article about the Springfield Rescue Mission. It caught my eye as a place that could help one of my brothers. Unfortunately, he is in another part of the country. Yet, I could not get that article out of my mind and decided to do something to help with a cash donation. One donation led to another and I am proud to be a regular contributor. After a couple of years, I decided it was time to see where my money was going and to give more of myself by volunteering. Over the past three years, I have had the honor of working in the kitchen and meeting many of the residents and guests who stop in for breakfast or a holiday dinner. And when I'm at a discount or dollar store, I’m always looking for goods to fill the Sonshine Bags! “It has been so rewarding and I am so very happy that I decided to spend this time at the Mission. I always look forward to the next opportunity to lend a hand. My family now expects me to be “late” for holiday meals. They’ve even stopped asking me where I will be! One of my sisters decided to take a look at the Mission’s web site, and she was so impressed, she sent her own cash donation! “My message is simple: I'm delighted that I took the first step and will continue to support the Mission and Emergency Shelter any way I can.”
We thank Peggy for her gifts of time, talent, and treasure and for sharing her experiences at the Springfield Rescue Mission. And we invite you to follow her lead—come by and see how you can help.
