Easter Breakfast - Celebration of Hope
Written by Julie Barnes, Community Development
The Christian community celebrates resurrection and new life each spring. On Saturday, April 3rd, the Springfield Rescue Mission will lift the hearts of the poor and homeless in Springfield, with hope, a hearty meal and the gift of love this Easter. The Easter meal can be an opportunity to seek a renewal for the homeless, and the Springfield Rescue Mission provides a chance for everyone to participate in the festivities. We expect to serve hundreds of homeless a delicious Easter breakfast and distribute Easter baskets to children who come to the meal. Volunteers will prepare and serve our hearty Easter breakfast, accompanied by friendly smiles and a message of hope.
“Meals can be the entry point for the homeless to find other services we offer that can help them get off the streets permanently,” says Ronald Willoughby, Executive Director. “Many of our guests weren’t homeless a year ago, but job loss, foreclosures and other economic factors have resulted in their seeking services. We know many are looking for a program based on Christian values. In tough times, we want to provide our guests with a loving, home-like atmosphere of hope for a brighter tomorrow.”
“We serve meals every day,” said Ron Willoughby, Executive Director. “We couldn’t do it without the help of our gracious volunteers and generous donors. Financially, it is a challenging time for us as we are not government funded. We see so many who need help, and we want to give them God’s best”.

URGENT NEED
Written by Julie Barnes, Community DevelopmentWe are in urgent need of sample size toiletries.
These items are given to the men who come to our Emergency Shelter seeking safe, warm shelter each night. We are currently running our annual “Hope Tote” campaign asking faithful donors to supply toiletries in full and sample sizes. We have run very low on sample sizes due to the increased number of people coming to the Mission for help on a daily basis. Please drop off any sample size toiletry donations of shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, soap, deodorant, hand/body lotion, body powder, disposable razors, hand sanitizer, band-aids, cotton balls, q-tips, band-aids, chapstick and shaving cream to the Springfield Rescue Mission any weekday between 8:00AM and 6:00PM.
