Operation Sonshine

Volunteer with the Rescue Mission's mobile feeding program, Operation SONshine, as the van travels the inner city distributing meals, food boxes, clothing, blankets, rain ponchos, and toiletries. Operation SONshine operates three to four days a week. There is a four person limit in the Operation SONshine van.

Volunteers arrive at 11 AM, help prepare lunch for the residents at 19 Bliss Street and make 100+ bag lunches to be distributed on the streets of Springfield. We visit 2 - 4 locations in city serving lunch to the homeless and poor.  Some of the items mentioned above may also be distributed to those living in crisis.  Once all meals have been distributed,  the van returns to the Mission at approximately 2:00 p.m. Volunteers then help with returning items to the kitchen and cleaning the van.
Detox / Prison Ministry
We go into the local prison and detox centers to provide Bible studies, hope, and opportunities to partake in our many programs.
