Through the generosity of our supporters, many rooms have been redone from floor to ceiling and more are in progress. We invite you to help give our residents more than just a place to stay. We want them to have a place that feels like home. Many of the rooms in our facilities need to be refurbished, and we invite everyone - families, businesses, and church groups included - to gather together and "adopt" a room to restore! Skilled workman (electricians, carpenters, plumbers) are needed.

OPERATION SONSHINE VIDEO

Volunteer with the Rescue Mission's mobile feeding program, Operation SONshine, as the van travels the inner city distributing meals, food boxes, clothing, blankets, rain ponchos, and toiletries. Operation SONshine operates three to four days a week. There is a four person limit in the Operation SONshine van.

Volunteers arrive at 10:00 a.m., help prepare lunch for the residents at 19 Bliss Street and make 100+ bag lunches to be distributed on the streets of Springfield. We visit 2 - 4 locations in city serving lunch to the homeless and poor.  Some of the items mentioned above may also be distributed to those living in crisis.  Once all meals have been distributed,  the van returns to the Mission at approximately 2:00 p.m. Volunteers then help with returning items to the kitchen and cleaning the van.

Many people are not able to come and volunteer at the Mission but want to help. A great alternative is to bake a meal at home and drop it off at the Mission.  Even better, organize a group of people to make dinner for up to 40 Men's New Life Program residents once a month. You would be a blessing to those we serve!

Encourage your favorite retail business to display a Rescue Mission counter top display. This is a great way to make the public aware of the Rescue Mission and raise money to feed and care for the hungry, homeless, addicted and poor.

Organize a bake sale at your church, business, or neighborhood and donate the proceeds to the Mission. The money will go directly to help feed and care for the people we serve. At $1.92 per meal, a little goes a long way.

A  special thanks to our friends at AMR (pictured right) for their "Fill an Ambulance" donation in Dec 2009. You can organize a fresh or canned food drive at your home, office, or church. Collect twin sheets, pillows, pillow cases, and towels with your friends, at your place of work or at your church. These items are needed throughout the year.
